Good to know

The practical details that don't belong in an itinerary but are worth knowing before you go. None of this changes how your journey is designed, it's just useful to have in one place.

passport Entry & Visa

Most nationalities need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before arrival, apply online at eta.gov.lk. Your passport should have at least six months' validity.

payments Currency

The local currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). USD and GBP are accepted at most hotels, and ATMs are widely available. Carry local cash for discretionary tipping.

health_and_safety Health

No vaccinations are mandatory, though we recommend discussing routine travel vaccinations with your physician. Sealed bottled water is provided throughout your journey.

partly_cloudy_day Climate

Sri Lanka runs two monsoon systems on opposite sides, making it a year-round destination. We factor this into where a journey goes and when.

luggage What to Pack

Light, breathable clothing; something warmer for the hill country evenings; modest dress for temple visits (shoulders/knees covered); comfortable walking shoes.

electrical_services Electricity & Time

GMT+5:30. Power sockets are mostly type D and type M (230V), the same three-round-pin style used in the UK; a universal adaptor covers both.

Common questions

What is included in an Ascencia journey? expand_more
Every journey includes all accommodation, a private air-conditioned vehicle with a dedicated driver, all airport transfers, entrance fees and experiences as listed in your itinerary, meals as specified, and 24/7 support from your journey manager. International flights are not included.
How far in advance should I book? expand_more
For peak season travel (December to March and July to August), we recommend enquiring at least four to six months in advance. Outside peak season, two to three months usually gives us enough time to confirm the hotels and experiences we want.
Are the itineraries fixed, or can they be changed? expand_more
Every itinerary is a starting point. We adjust the days, swap hotels, add or remove experiences, and change the pace until it feels right for you. Even after your journey is confirmed, your journey manager can make reasonable changes on the ground.
What does it cost? expand_more
Every journey is priced individually based on the hotels chosen, the number of guests, the duration, and the experiences included. We do not publish fixed prices because two journeys with the same number of days can vary significantly depending on the level of accommodation.
How do payments and cancellations work? expand_more
A deposit of 50% confirms your booking. The remaining balance is due 60 days before arrival. We also strongly recommend taking out comprehensive travel insurance before you travel.
Is Sri Lanka safe to visit? expand_more
Sri Lanka is a welcoming and generally very safe destination for international visitors. Like anywhere, it pays to be sensible with belongings in busy areas. Your journey manager will always have up-to-date information on conditions during your trip and will be reachable throughout.
