Ascencia Travels was founded in 2024 by two Sri Lankans who had spent enough time watching visitors move through their country at the wrong speed. We started a different kind of operator: fewer guests, longer stays, and an island shown the way we'd show it to someone we actually cared about.
Why we started Ascencia
Sri Lanka is small enough to drive across in a day and varied enough to need three weeks. Most itineraries we'd come across compressed it into neither, a list of sights visited at a pace built for buses, not for people. We thought the island deserved better, and that the people best placed to show it properly were the people who'd grown up in it.
Ascencia Travels was incorporated in July 2024 around a simple set of constraints: journeys of seven nights or more, no more than six guests, and no group tours. Not because shorter or larger trips can't work elsewhere, but because we wanted to build one thing well rather than several things adequately.
Everything else, the hotels we choose, the people we work with on the ground, the pace of each day, follows from that starting point.
